Avi is the most helpful, kind and caring young man. He will do anything for his family and his friends. He loves to have fun, he's a really good athlete.
We are excited to celebrate him as he becomes a man in the eyes of the Torah!

When Avi was searching for a Mitzvah project to complete, we were brainstorming many ideas. We know that Avi loves to help people. We also know that Avi loves all things technology. So he decided to marry everything together! The Jewish Family Services of Toledo has a program that helps seniors with technology, and Avi will be working with this program.
Technology gives a great platform for Avi to practice and develop the necessary (but often undervalued!) confluence of hard and soft skills. Where having the know-how isn't enough, but rather how we assess, adapt, empathize and communicate. With the T3 program, it also creates an intergenerational connection - a critical life skill!
Avi's first program is helping run the virtual reality experience of sampling honey in Northern Michigan!
Avi loves to compete and have fun. We will have tailgate-style food and games as well as a DJ who will lead us in other games (think Name That Tune and Trivia!)

A bar mitzvah is a Jewish coming-of-age ceremony where Avi officially becomes responsible for his own actions and is recognized as an adult in the Jewish community. It’s like leveling up in the game of life!
"Bar mitzvah" translates to "son of the commandment." It’s a fancy way of saying Avi is ready to take on more responsibilities and participate fully in Jewish traditions.
Yes! Avi will be reading from the Torah, leading prayers, and maybe even giving a speech. It’s his big moment to shine, so feel free to cheer him on (silently, of course)!
Reading from the Torah is a significant part of the bar mitzvah ceremony. It shows that Avi has learned about his Jewish heritage and is ready to take on the responsibilities of Jewish adulthood. This is a really big thing.
No worries at all! We’re thrilled to have you join us. Just follow along with the service, and feel free to ask questions if you’re curious about anything. Just enjoy the experience - your presence and support mean the world to Avi and our family!
The ceremony typically lasts about an hour and a half, but time flies when you’re having fun! After that, we would like to invite you to a lunch immediately after the service. Think bagels, cream cheese, and all the fun and tasty things!
For the Bar Mitzvah ceremony itself, wear what you'd wear to church or a nice service. Collared shirt for men, dress or skirt for women.
For the evening party, dress for fun. Informal, yet stylish with a sporty flair! (Think accessories from your favorite sport or sports team!) No sweatpants. ;-)
Anything that reflects Avi's interests is perfect! Common bar mitzvah gifts include religious and educational books, jewelry, gift certificates, or money. Gifts involving any amount of money are traditionally given in multiples of eighteen, this is because in Hebrew the word ‘life’ corresponds to the number eighteen. Any money received is intended to be saved and used for college or to further education.
